Start here for the basics. These answers describe the current offering, not a promise that every package, integration or commercial option is live. The package reference, status page and changelog provide the more detailed picture.
What is Playstack?
Playstack is a collection of TypeScript packages for application capabilities such as authentication, billing, storage, queues and notifications. Portable contracts hold the core behavior; framework and provider adapters connect those contracts to your application. Start with the feature overview or try the getting-started example.
Do I need to replace my framework or adopt the whole stack?
No. You can add one capability to an existing project and expand from there. Playstack is not a required application framework or a hosted backend that takes ownership of your product's data. Your application still owns its routes, authorization policy, deployment and provider accounts. Browse the framework guides for the bindings that fit your project.
What is the difference between Free, Plus and Pro?
The Free baseline is MIT-licensed. Pro contains the assigned paid capabilities, including team accounts and application UI compositions. Plus is planned and does not currently have an exclusive package allocation. A package's tier describes its access policy; it does not prove that a particular release is published or that an integration is production-qualified. Check package access before installing. The licensing overview links the MIT text and clearly identifies the Pro commercial licence as an unreviewed draft, not finalized sale terms.
Can I purchase a licence now?
Public checkout is not enabled. The pricing page explains the intended licence and updates model and lets you request private-preview information. That explanation is not an offer to purchase. Final terms, licence fulfilment and live billing qualification must be completed before sale; a preview request does not start a paid subscription.
How do I join the private preview?
Use the private-preview request form and confirm your address using the email link. Confirmation adds you to the confirmed list and queues a welcome message explaining that access instructions will follow. Requesting or confirming a place does not create an application account, grant paid package access or guarantee an admission date. If a confirmation email does not arrive, check spam and try the form again later, or contact us below.
Is a Free account the same as private-preview or Pro access?
No. Where dashboard signup is enabled, a verified Free account can prepare projects and create an ordinary read-only registry token. That token can read eligible published Free packages, not every paid package. Paid access and any separately approved preview access are checked independently. The email request list is not a registry credential. See accounts, tokens and access.
How do I install packages from the private registry?
Configure the Playstack registry scope and provide your token through an
environment variable, as shown in getting started.
Keep the real token in your shell or CI secret store, never in Git or browser
code. Hosting builds that install private packages need their own configured
build secret. A scoped registry setting applies to every @playstack/* request;
it does not automatically fall back to public npm for a missing release.
Which package versions should I use together?
Keep the selected @playstack/* graph on the same exact, verified release.
Read the changelog and migration guidance before upgrading. Documentation can
describe upcoming APIs before their release is available from your approved
package source; local builds and Yalc snapshots do not prove registry publication.
Check release availability, rather than
assuming the newest source or documentation version is ready to install.
Do I need Prisma or a particular infrastructure provider?
Only when your chosen composition requires it. Packages expose specific persistence and provider adapters; selecting an adapter can add peer dependencies, configuration or a schema migration. The CLI can preview those requirements, but it does not choose your production database, apply migrations or configure provider credentials for you. See CLI configuration and the integration catalog.
Does installing a package make that feature production-ready?
No. Your application must still compose authorization, transaction boundaries, workers, provider credentials, migrations and deployment settings as applicable. Package tests and local fixtures are not qualification of your deployed service. The status page explains how implementation, documentation and adapter status are presented; use each package's guide for its remaining host obligations.
Can I stop preview and release emails?
Use the unsubscribe link in a list email, or reply to ask for help. The site's preview list and the dashboard's optional product-update preference are separate; you can change the dashboard preference in Account Settings. Neither is implied by registration, purchase or token creation. Required account-security messages are separate from optional updates. Read the privacy note for details.
Where can I ask a question or report an integration problem?
Email hello@playstack.dev. Tell us which packages, versions, framework and runtime you use, what you expected and what happened. Include a small reproduction or redacted error if possible. Do not send registry tokens, provider secrets, passwords or private customer data. Useful recurring questions will help shape future documentation and FAQ entries.
